Is Winter the Best Time to Visit Corbett?

As the season shifts, nature dons a new look, and so does Aahana Resort & Spa. Winter at Aahana is not just a change in weather; instead, it’s a transformation to a serene yet thrilling escape for nature lovers and those simply looking to unwind. Let’s explore the allure of this magical season in the heart of Corbett.

The air is crisp, the skies are clearer, and the lush green forest that flourished during the monsoon is now ready to show off its renewed beauty. Sunny afternoons create the perfect atmosphere for being outdoors. At Aahana you can spend these afternoons in many ways: enjoy a picnic under a tree, lay on a ‘khaat’ (खाट – a traditional Charpai, woven string bed, used in the hilly rural households of Uttarakhand) under the sun, or play lawn games.

Winter, with its golden sunshine, is the season where nature feels most alive. It is vibrant and full of possibilities. The resort’s landscape, still kissed by the remnants of rain, is the perfect backdrop for outdoor adventures and peaceful relaxation alike. Temperatures during the day range from 20°C to 25°C and evenings and early mornings drop down between 5°C and 8°C.

The Safari Season: A Wildlife Adventure Awaits

Corbett National Park, renowned for its rich biodiversity, is ready to be explored. The monsoon has nourished the forest, and now, it’s bursting with life. The park has thick foliage, tigers use the rains to patrol the forests and re-mark their territories, so the park is renewed with opportunities to see new wildlife emerge. Cubs, chicks, and fawns exploring the forest in its full glory.
And the cooler temperatures make it an ideal time to explore the park, whether on an early morning safari or an afternoon drive. This season, wildlife sightings are abundant making it the perfect opportunity to witness animals and countless species of birds. This season also welcomes numerous migratory birds, most notably the Himalayan griffon vulture. Native to the Himalayas and the northern foothills of India, these Old World vultures escape freezing high-altitude temperatures to seek refuge on the steep cliffs of Jim Corbett National Park’s Jhirna Zone—located just 15 minutes away from Aahana.

The safari season at Corbett brings nature to the forefront, and our guests have the perfect starting point. Aahana Resort’s proximity to the park means you can seamlessly blend luxury with adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or a first-time safari-goer, winter’s cool days and clear skies offer the ideal conditions to immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the jungle.

Winter Activities at Aahana: A Wilderness Winter Wonderland

When the sun sets behind the towering trees, the resort transforms into an oasis of warmth and relaxation. Winter at Aahana means a carefully selected collection of activities designed to rejuvenate, refresh, and bring people closer to nature. Winters bring crisp, clear nights perfect for bonfires and provide a space where you can unwind with a warm drink in hand.

Bonfires Under the Stars: The cool evenings call for the warmth of a crackling bonfire. Gather around with friends and family, sip on a hot toddy, and experience the serenity of the winter sky. We set up bonfires for each family, where you can enjoy a jacket potato with butter and local salts, listen to live music, and even order an assortment of grilled snacks– all by the poolside.

  • Herbal Infused Culinary Experiences: Winter at Aahana means enjoying hearty meals prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Savor dishes made from our organic farm’s produce, or try one of our artisanal drinks—perfect for the chilly nights. Pahadi cuisine is hearty and best experienced during winters. There are lots of ingredients that provide warmth to your body and soul and combat the mountain chill: enjoy gahat dal, bhatt ki churkani, and mandua ki roti. These are dense in nutrition and are slow cooked to perfection. Our signature winter drinks usually include a hot toddy, mulled wine or eggnog. And every year we expand our winter cocktail menu with something special. Last year, summer gave us the perfect apricots to make homemade apricot jam, a signature ingredient in our Whisky Blossom– a refined whisky-based cocktail that blends the crisp sweetness of fresh apples with the warmth of our jam. Alternatively, you can enjoy the Winter Solstice Sour, that brings the zestiness of fresh ‘pahadi’ lemons with rum spiced with cinnamon and star anise.

Along with the jungles of Corbett, our holiday spirit is in full swing! During Christmas, we transform the resort into a winter wonderland, adding a special touch to your holiday experience. From specially crafted holiday drinks to live music, there’s something for everyone to enjoy:

  • Holiday-Themed Activities: Enjoy the holiday warmth and bond with family by designing and building a gingerbread house with your children on Christmas Eve. Decorate cookies in the afternoon by the poolside, and enjoy them with hi-tea. The festive spirit is fully enjoyed when you can enjoy homemade cookies that you decorated yourself.

  • Handcrafted Holiday Drinks Menu: Warm up with seasonal drinks curated just for the holiday season: think spiced mulled wine, eggnog, and festive herbal infusions. Our philosophy of handcrafting drinks at Aahana is about bringing the freshest flavours of the season with spicy herbs perfectly suited for winter.

Come prepared for winter: what to wear in the resort or for your safari.

While the daytime air is crisp and cool, the bright winter sun often calls for light layers like a long-sleeve shirt or a casual tee. However, the winter chill sneaks in quickly as soon as the sun goes down, requiring a warm jacket, scarf, and cozy boots. Packing adjustable layers ensures a smooth transition from sun-drenched afternoons to chilly evenings. During the holidays, you’ll see our guests fully embracing the festive spirit in stylish knitted wools, gloves, and warm caps.

What to Wear: The Winter Safari Layering Guide

Early morning winter safaris are famously freezing, but the temperature climbs quickly as the sun comes up. The secret to staying comfortable in an open-top gypsy is smart layering in the right palette.

  • The Colour Palette: Stick to earthy, neutral tones like olive green, khaki, and brown to blend into the wilderness. Avoid bright, neon clothing that can startle wildlife.
  • The Essential Layers: Start with warm thermal inners and top them with insulating clothing.
  • Defeat the Wind Chill: Always pack a high-quality windbreaker jacket. An open safari jeep can get intensely cold when moving through the park.
  • Protect Your Extremities: Keep the frost away by wearing ear warmers or beanies to protect your head and ears. Don’t forget to pack comfortable gloves and wear a pair of warm socks.
  • Aahana’s Cozy Touch: While Aahana provides warm woollen blankets to keep you comfortable during your drive, we highly recommend carrying your own extra warm layers so you can adjust your comfort level easily throughout the safari.

A winter safari is an unforgettable experience, but entering the wild requires respect, preparation, and strict adherence to park regulations. To ensure a safe, ethical, and breathtaking adventure, keep this quick guide handy before you board your safari vehicle.

What to Do

  • Listen to experts: Follow your naturalist and driver’s instructions at all times. They are trained, licensed, and know the terrain best.
  • Blend into nature: Wear neutral colors like olive, khaki, and brown. Avoid bright, neon clothing that can startle wildlife.
  • Keep documents handy: Carry the original IDs that you used for your safari booking.
  • Embrace the silence: Keep your voice low. In the wild, silence rewards you with the best sightings.
  • Leave no trace: Carry back everything you take in. Your naturalist carries a waste bag, ensuring absolutely nothing stays behind.
  • Respect boundaries: Keep your cameras ready, but always enjoy sightings at the exact distance set by park rules.

Photographer’s Winter Checklist

If you are heading out to capture the perfect shot, ensure your gear bag includes:

  • Microfiber lens cloth
  • Camera bean bags (for stabilization)
  • Lens hood
  • Reliable dust and rain protection

What to Avoid

  • Never leave your seat: Do not stand up in, lean out of, or exit the vehicle anywhere except at designated rest points.
  • Don’t rush the wildlife: Never ask your driver to chase a sighting, approach closer than permitted, go off-road, or overtake other vehicles.
  • Zero animal interaction: Do not feed or bait any animal, imitate animal calls, or use flash photography at close range.

2026 Tech & Gadget Restrictions (UPDATED)

  • No cell phones: Under February 5, 2026 park rules, cell phones are strictly prohibited inside the safari zones. You must submit all mobile phones at the entry gate.
  • No satellite phones: Satellite communication devices are legally barred from entering the park.
